A few weeks ago I went into downtown Columbus to see what I could see as well as get familiar with the city. Well, what I saw was the Scioto River behind COSI. The painting above is just one of the views that I was able to capture during my short venture downtown. Although I usually have these paintings posted on EBay, I've decided to make this painting available as a print on Imagekind. There will be more to come.

Also, I wanted to thank everyone who has been able to stop by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to see my work. I've received a lot of positive feedback from the show as well as some new followers.

You're Invited!

Finally, it's come! Yesterday, was the official start of my exhibition, Under a Virginia Sky: paintings by Steven Walker, at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA). I've already received some kudos from a few folks that have seen the exhibition first hand (which is always good to hear). I urge everyone that can get to the museum to do so. The exhibition contains 22 of my most recent Virginia landscapes and will be on display in the foyer of the VMFA Pauley Center from Dec. 8th to Jan. 30th.

Printing Treasures

A long time ago when my main concentration was illustration, I'd often get requests for prints of illustrations that I've created. At the time it was not cost effective for me to invest in prints. I've recently come across a "print on demand" website called Imagekind.com. This site has allowed me to upload works to their site and for anyone that wants to purchase prints of my work can do so at a fraction of the cost of the original. The site also allows a variety of printing sizes, papers and framing options.

So far I've only uploaded a few paintings to my gallery such as Jimi Hendrix, The Tinman, The Storm and the Happy Couple. If there are any images that you've seen on my site or blog that you'd like for me to make available for purchase as a print please feel free to email me at steven@stevenwalkerstudios.com.

Again, tomorrow (Dec. 6th) I'll be showing new works like the painting above at Morgan's Treasure in Westerville from 10am to 5pm.

The Words of a Gentlemen

On that note I'll start this post by not apologizing for my absence during the past week. Last week was spent in Virginia framing pieces for the VMFA project, dropping off artwork and attending the Airforce Art Gala. I must also not apologize to all of the people that I could not see during my visit. It's rough going back home and only being able to focus on work when you much rather score free meals off of friends that are happy to see you.

Today I packed my truck full of paintings in preparation for a roadtrip to Virginia. Many of the paintings that I'll be taking down the road are reserved for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts traveling exhibition. The painting above is just one of the paintings that will be included in this two year exhibition.

In other late breaking news, I was notified by Manifest Gallery (located in Cincinnati, OH) that the painting below will be included in their landscape show titled Terra Firma: Survey of Approaches to Landscapes. The show focuses on contemporary landscapes. I'm honored to be in the company of such a select group of artists.

Yesterday I took some time to update some of the paintings on my website. Although I post quite often on my blog, I sometimes neglect bringing my website up to date.

My next big project is actually an old project. I'm preparing about twenty pieces for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA). These pieces will make up a statewide traveling exhibition titled Under a Virginia Sky: Paintings by Steven Walker. Since the date for the exhibition has been pushed back to December (tentatively), I thought I'd take a look at the pieces that I had reserved for the exhibition. I was amazed at how much my work has changed from earlier this year. Fortunately it's been a change for the better. The evolution of my work also means that I have some work to do before December in order to make the show both impressive and cohesive.



The painting above stems from one of the many adventures that my fellow artists and I faced while in Fort Dix, NJ for the Airforce Illustration Program. If anyone is interested in this painting or others on EBay just click here.

Prep Work

Not that this is news but today my studio leaked into my living room. There are boards everywhere. Gesso is as precious as a gallon of gas ($3.17 a gallon and probably rising). My dog has nowhere to hide from this painting frenzy. Since Friday I've completed eleven paintings for the, what I like to call, "top secret" museum project. I can't prep these boards fast enough.

Top Secret

Today was extra special as it was the first official day of spring break. Oddly enough I've received more emails from students today than I did all last semester. I suppose it's the panic of midterm grades.

Since I have this time I'm going to try to put it to good use. I'm currently working on a traveling exhibition for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. This project will require that I have twenty to thirty new paintings ready for exhibition by the summer. No problem. I'm usually eager to show what I've been working on but this is going to be under tight lock and key until it's completion.
