Voilà... From Old to New!

After the remodel.

Since getting back home from my Iowa residency it's been all go.  The folks from Direct Home Improvements were ready to get started on remodeling my studio space.  Fortunately for me, I had done enough paintings during the previous weeks in Iowa that I didn't feel like a slacker while waiting for the space to be ready.  I implemented a few things that I picked up from Peter Fiore, while taking his workshop earlier this summer.  Most of the furniture, in addition to getting a fresh coat of paint, is now on casters.  I may change the layout or I might leave it as is but now I at least have the option.

Now that everything's wiped down, moved in and painted, I have two days to do a little work before I'm off to Glen Arbor Art Association in Glen Arbor, Michigan for my second artist residency.  Enjoy the photos and I'll have some paintings to post soon.

Before the remodel.

Cleared out the studio and took up the carpet in about two hours.  You don't want to see what the inside of the house looks like.

This new ceiling (knotty pine) is far better than the cheap plywood that was up there.

Fresh coat of paint over the brick.

New flooring for easy clean up (use to be a dingy rug) for when I drop things or when my dog rolls in the mud.

New Lights with nice cool bulbs for painting at night.  Now I might actually be able to see what I'm painting.

Wow, that is a really nice studio remodel! All that open space and natural sunlight must make painting so much easier.

Thanks Matthew. This means that I have one less excuse if I turn out a bad painting.
