"A Better Day" - 5" x 7" - oil
I've always had an unusual take on Mother's Day. I'm not going to start bad mouthing mothers because mom is one of the very best. She puts up with all of my shenanigans. She almost always has a grill cheese ready for me when I come over. She supported my career as an artist even when many laughed at the idea. Mother's Day to me isn't about showing her that you love her and all of that mushy stuff but more importantly, for those of you who have siblings, it's about upstaging your brother or sister. It's about turning mom into an emotional pile of goo and realizing that you've won her over once again. I don't know what my brother has in store this year but I think that this year is mine. Here's to all of those moms that support the arts.

Yay Steven! What a great sentiment...I'm with you on this one...cheers to moms who support the arts. Oh yes, and to moms of artists.
Love that sky.
Thank you Liz and Kathleen!
Ha ha! I called my mom yesterday and said.. Did you get my card yet? Well she hadn't looked in the mail pile yet.. but I then said "yeah well it'll be better then Kevin's anyway"(Kevin of course being my bro).. which made her laugh!! Gotta love a mother's laugh...
That's the best mothers day post I've ever read. Your writing is as entertaining and skillful as your painting. "A Better Day" is just stunning.
D and Suz, you're right there's something awesome about a mother's laugh and delight.
Thank you Garriott! I had to lay it on pretty thick this year for my mom since it's the first mother's day since I moved from Virginia.
